Jon Boats Around The World: Jon boats are used all over the world! They can be made from wood or aluminum. Aluminum jon boats can be welded or riveted. Most jon boat designs are similar, although they may vary in length, beam, number of seats, or materials used.

Origin: Jon Boats originated from simple planked boats that could be built by amateurs. The head log (board at the bow) is used instead of the sharp pointed keel found on most boats. This makes the sides and bottom much easier to place on the boat. The first Jon Boat Plans were probably drawn by hand. We’ve actually drawn Jon Boat Plans on the back of a piece of scrap plywood too!

Versatile: Jon Boats are extremely versatile and can be used to work, patrol, fish or hunt. They are usually lightweight, and have a shallow draft, both great features. Although not as fancy as some designs, you can’t get a more reliable, affordable and dependable boat for lakes, ponds, or inland waters, than a well made jon boat.

We Design Them For Safety: Our Jon boat plans are designed so that the seat compartments can be filled with flotation. Flotation foam under the seats can make a serious difference if the hull develops a leak. The added foam flotation can help keep the jon boat from sinking if things get rough out on the water.
